MAIE - Michigan Association of International Educators is the professional home for educators , students, scholars, and institutions supporting international education across the great state of Michigan.
Having been a past member of the organization, I wanted to develop an updated logo and branding system for MAIE. Their previous logo was outdated, lacked personality, and didn’t represent the pride members have for contributing to international education within Michigan and across the globe.

MAIE is the professional organization for new and experienced international educators in the state of Michigan.
MAIE serves to provide an exchange of ideas and dialogue focused on improving the international educational experience for a global population of students and scholars.

MAIE acts as a stepping stone for individuals to support international education through local, regional, and national levels of involvement.
Design Process
This project was a lot of fun to work on as it presented some unique challenges. The original logo for MAIE lacked usability across communication platforms for the organization. When the new idea was being pitched, MAIE was increasing its online presence and needed a responsive branding system for both digital and print applications.
While the original concept for the logo had the essential elements to represent the organization, I wanted to create an updated brand for MAIE that would instill a sense of pride for current MAIE members and attract newer membership with a modern, confident, and approachable look.
Logo exploration stayed close to the original elements of the MAIE logo to maintain continuity of the brand, but a new responsive design was need for a full-range of use, including:
- Digital communication – email newsletters, website graphics
- Social media- profile images, posts
- Promotional items
- Printed documents
All of these factors came into play while I was designing the updated brand and working with MAIE on a final solution that fit their needs.
An added bonus for me was being able to label the color system after various well-known parts of the state of Michigan to really personalize the project.
