Branding Exploration

Vikings Crossfit

Vikings Crossfit was the day 17 prompt for the 2021 30 days of 30 logos daily challenge by @logoramia on Instagram.

One of the best ways to stay motivated throughout the year is to participate in different challenges. The learning, growth, and connections that you make is hard to beat.

I was late to find the Logoramia challenge this year, but I will definitely be ready for the 3rd edition next year.

This day stuck out particular to me, so I wanted to do a deeper dive into the logo and brand apparel assets as if this was a gym preparing to launch.

Design Process

I have never attempted a CrossFit program, but one word always comes to mind when someone mentions it to me: badass.

I looked up badass on the Apple dictionary app for the definition, and I can’t help but notice that it is spot-on for this project.

bad·ass| ˈbadˌas | North American informal

noun
a tough, uncompromising, or intimidating person: one of them is a real badass, the other’s pretty friendly.

a formidably impressive person: she is so wonderful, so sweet, so rad, so amazing; she’s a badass.

Crossfit and Vikings are the perfect combo of badassery. I think of CrossFit athletes as people who are tough, always pushing themselves past limits they never thought possible. And Vikings, well, they just seem like intimidating beasts.

I wanted the overall vibe of the logo to be strong yet appealing for people who would be proud to buy gear for their workouts.

Side note: I researched some Norse/Viking patterns for the pattern graphic below the lettered logo (it also represents a battle rope).

During my research down the YouTube rabbit hole, I came across a brilliant tutorial on how to draw a celtic knot by David Nicholls. It’s not Viking related, but I highly recommend watching.
